Invest in Africa… Digital Communications that Sparks the Imagination

Invest in Africa have just launched their very first website using innovative animation and African inspired creative concepts to encourage businesses to work in partnership with local African companies to grow markets and deliver enterprises.
On 24 January 2012, Africa’s largest independent oil company, Tullow Oil plc, launched a new business initiative, Invest in Africa, a not-for-profit organisation aimed at attracting and facilitating further investment across the continent. An important goal for this new initiative was to encourage long-term investment across the continent to help build and develop local capacity, boost domestic job markets, develop skills and stimulate economic growth.
Black Sun was appointed in May 2012 and was given just six weeks to deliver the Invest in Africa online strategy and create a strong foundation from which to evolve ongoing communications activities, rich media and social media, all of which proved key to the communications strategy.
The long term strategy for the website was to act as IIA’s communications hub providing information on why and how to do business in Africa. However, from day one the strategy was clear:
“Challenge existing misconceptions of doing business in Africa through the communications of relevant facts and figures to support an investment case.”
Creating designs and content that challenged existing misconceptions of doing business in Africa was important and led to the solution of a facts based approach with powerful imagery to show a continent on the move.
Black Sun also created a 90 second animation sequence, encapsulating the role of IIA in demystifying the investment process while creating new partnerships to drive both business growth and wider development in the continent.
The end result is an exciting website that works hard to inspire visitors while still retaining a corporate form. The creative concepts delivered across a number of digital and print channels including website, twitter, event materials and press pack.
