Sallie Pilot discusses corporate governance at Hermes seminar

Sallie Pilot was invited to present the findings of Black Sun’s latest pieces of research at the ICSA Hermes Transparency in Governance Awards summer seminar, alongside two of the most influential figures in the corporate reporting debate: Business Minister Ed Davey, MP and CBI President Sir Roger Carr.

The seminar was designed to transform reporting standards among UK companies, and Sallie highlighted the key findings from Black Sun’s ‘Telling the story’ analysis of the FTSE 100 corporate reporting trends, as well as ‘From the inside out’, a study into the recognised business benefits of good corporate reporting.

Ed Davey outlined the Department of Business Innovation & Skills’ proposals to split the current narrative report into two documents; a Strategic Report and an Annual Directors Statement. Meanwhile, Sir Roger Carr spoke of encouraging “Chairmen and CEO’s to take pride in authorship and write in a style that reflects a sense of ownership and engagement” which was a theme supported by other speakers at the seminar including the Chairman of Amlin and the CEO’s of BAE Systems and Aggreko, all former winners of these prestigious awards.
